A 7 anni dalla sua inaugurazione, il Tranferium di Nijmegen rappresenta uno dei più importanti interventi nell’ambito delle infrastrutture di trasporto pubblico nei Paesi Bassi.
L’enorme parcheggio di biciclette fa parte del complesso della stazione centrale, nel sotterraneo di un edificio alto 15 piani destinato a residenza per studenti.
La qualificazione estetica degli spazi interni del deposito è stata affidata a Jan van der Ploeg, uno dei massimi pittori olandesi contemporanei. Attraverso un’estesissima applicazione cromatica, l’artista inonda di colori esplosivi pavimenti, soffitti e pilastri per un totale di diverse migliaia di metri quadri.
La disposizione rettilinea delle rastrelliere viene contraddetta da macro-campiture sghembe, che conferiscono all’ambiente un forte effetto tridimensionale.
A dispetto della sua tecnicità e della sua funzione “di massa”, questo intervento approda a una condizione immersiva, dove le tinte sature si coniugano con un’illuminazione brillante.
The bike house – Seven years after its inauguration, the Nijmegen Tranferium represents one of the most important interventions in the field of public transport infrastructure in the Netherlands.
The huge bicycle park is part of the central station complex, in the basement of a 15-storey high building used as a student residence.
The aesthetic qualification of the interior spaces of the warehouse was entrusted to Jan van der Ploeg, one of the greatest contemporary Dutch painters. Through a very extensive chromatic application, the artist floods floors, ceilings and pillars with explosive colors for a total of several thousand square meters.
The rectilinear arrangement of the racks is contradicted by skewed macro-backgrounds, which give the environment a strong three-dimensional effect.
In spite of its technicality and its “mass” function, this intervention reaches an immersive condition, where saturated colors are combined with brilliant lighting.
