Per celebrare i 150 anni dalla nascita di Giacomo Balla, il MAXXI di Roma ha curato un programma di eventi espositivi, il cui perno è sicuramente l’apertura al pubblico (dal 26 maggio al fino al 24 ottobre) della casa romana dove l’artista visse con la sua famiglia e lavorò fino alla morte. L’iniziativa “Casa Balla. Dalla casa all’universo e ritorno” rappresenta un vero e proprio momento di sintesi rispetto alla figura e alla produzione dell’artista torinese. L’appartamento di via Oslavia, inondato di forme astratte e di colore, può essere considerato una sorta di opera d’arte totale e immersiva, ma anche condivisa, poiché alla sua caratterizzazione parteciparono attivamente anche le figlie Elica e Luce.

La produzione di Balla non necessita certo di un regesto in questa sede, ma ricordiamo che l’uso spregiudicato e audace del colore nelle sue opere ha segnato una vera a propria svolta nella cromatologia, anche in seno alle avanguardie coeve al Futurismo.

At the Futurist’s house – To celebrate the 150th anniversary of the birth of Giacomo Balla, the MAXXI in Rome has curated a program of exhibition events, the pivot of which is certainly the opening to the public (from May 26 to October 24) of the Roman house where the artist he lived with his family and worked until his death. The “Casa Balla. From home to the universe and back” represents a real moment of synthesis with respect to the figure and production of the Turin artist. The apartment in via Oslavia, flooded with abstract shapes and color, can be considered a sort of total and immersive work of art, but also shared, since its daughters Elica and Luce also actively participated in its characterization.

Balla’s production certainly does not need a register here, but we remember that the unscrupulous and daring use of color in his works marked a real turning point in chromatology, even within the avant-garde contemporaries of Futurism.
