PAINTING | ERIN MILLER WRAY

Erin Miller Wray è un’artista e designer statunitense specializzata nel dipinto a mano, attiva soprattutto nel settore del branding. Collabora direttamente con i clienti per sviluppare, in chiave integrale, murales e lettering unici per contenuti aziendali, uso commerciale, pubblicità all’aperto, pagine social e arte pubblica.

Insomma, opere d’arte al servizio dell’impresa. Erin e il suo team creano dipinti unici nel loro genere per una clientela attenta a forme alternative di comunicazione; opere che l’artista ritiene possano sollecitare in clienti e spettatori un senso di appartenenza e di seduzione.

Tra i suoi lavori più originali, la capsule collection di surf che Erin ha decorato con i tipici motivi astratti per Thread Surfboards, che produce artigianalmente tavole-cult per gli appassionati dei tumulti oceanici.

Color among the waves – Erin Miller Wray is an American artist and designer specializing in hand painting, mainly active in the branding sector. You collaborate directly with customers to develop unique murals and lettering for corporate content, commercial use, outdoor advertising, social pages and public art in an integral way.

In short, works of art at the service of the company. Erin and her team create one-of-a-kind paintings for a clientele attentive to alternative forms of communication; works that the artist believes can elicit a sense of belonging and seduction in customers and viewers.

Among her most original works, the surf capsule collection that Erin has decorated with the typical abstract motifs for Thread Surfboards, which produces handcrafted cult-boards for fans of ocean turmoil.

ARCHITECTURE | HORMUZ

Lo studio iraniano Zav ha ultimato lo scorso anno la costruzione del Majara Residence, un villaggio davvero originale: 15 piccole case vacanza a tinte vibranti, pensate per accoglier i visitatori dell’isola di Hormuz, affacciata sul Golfo Persico. ⁠Questo nuovo insediamento turistico appare come un agglomerato un po’ biologico e un po’ tribale.

Il pensiero dei progettisti è molto chiaro, nonché saldamente legato all’identità del luogo: «Non si può cancellare il colore dall’isola di Hormuz, con la sabbia rossa delle sue spiagge che trasforma persino il blu del mare. Nemmeno quello dei suoi abitanti, per i quali i colori sono una forma di espressione, negli abiti, negli interni delle loro case e nel cibo».

Sul piano tipologico, le cupole richiamano i trulli pugliesi. Ma qui la ricerca cromatica è molto originale, dato che il colore inonda con asimmetria e casualità apparenti sia l’estradosso che l’interno, creando un paesaggio visivo di rara sensualità.

Like overturned pots – Last year, the Iranian studio Zav completed the construction of the Majara Residence, a really original village: 15 small holiday homes in vibrant colors, designed to welcome visitors to the island of Hormuz, overlooking the Persian Gulf. ⁠This new tourist settlement appears as a somewhat organic and a little tribal agglomeration.

The thinking of the designers is very clear, as well as firmly linked to the identity of the place: «You cannot erase the color from the island of Hormuz, with the red sand of its beaches that even transforms the blue of the sea. Not even that of its inhabitants, for whom colors are a form of expression, in clothes, in the interiors of their homes and in food ».

On the typological level, the domes recall the Apulian trulli. But here the chromatic research is very original, given that the color floods both the top surface and the interior with apparent asymmetry and randomness, creating a visual landscape of rare sensuality.

RUGS | HENNY VAN NISTELROOY

Il disegno della collezione di tappeti Eclipse dello Studio HVN (di Henny Van Nistelrooy) per la cinese TAN è stato ispirato dalla filosofia legata all’eclissi solare e lunare: due tappeti apparentemente sovrapposti tra loro realizzati in tre diverse forme e colori. Ogni pezzo traduce un diverso stadio dell’essere, che varia dal primo occultamento all’eclissi totale.

Il gioco dinamico è accentuato dal ricorso al doppio gradient cromatico compreso tra due tonalità di una stessa tinta, esaltando la sensualità del materiale e l’originalità degli schemi grafici che suddividono il tappeto (tondo, quadrato o rettangolare).

Gli esemplari sono realizzati a mano in Nepal da abili artigiani per un periodo di quattro mesi. Attraverso un processo di lavorazione di filati di lana nepalese, di tintura delle fibre e di annodatura a mano, i tappeti prendono vita all’insegna dell’alta qualità manifatturiera.

Eclipses of wool – The design of the Eclipse carpet collection by Studio HVN (by Henny Van Nistelrooy) for the Chinese company TAN was inspired by the philosophy linked to the solar and lunar eclipse: two apparently superimposed rugs made in three different shapes and colors. Each piece translates a different stage of being, which varies from the first concealment to the total eclipse.

The dynamic game is accentuated by the use of the double chromatic gradient between two shades of the same color, enhancing the sensuality of the material and the originality of the graphic patterns that divide the carpet (round, square or rectangular).

The items are handcrafted in Nepal by skilled craftsmen for a period of four months. Through a process of processing Nepalese wool yarn, dyeing the fibers and knotting by hand, life rugs are characterized by high manufacturing quality.

FURNITURE | NORT STUDIO

Il lavoro di Nort Studio, struttura professionale con base ad Anversa, è da sempre orientato al disegno di elementi d’arredo con una forte carica iconografica, in cui geometrie pure si intrecciano con una ricerca cromatica molto originale, caratterizzata dal mix di tinte sature e contrastate.

Dopo avere dato vita a collezioni assai sofisticate, specie in tema di sedute, Jef De Brabander e Kathleen Opdenacker hanno creato LMNM III, che i designer belgi hanno definito “wall object”. Infatti essi lo lasciano in bilico tra arte e design, senza classificarlo in modo rigido. È un elemento da fissare al muro e da godere già grazie alla sua potenza figurativa, ma predisposto ad accogliere oggetti della quotidianità come libri, chiavi, occhiali, e tanto altro.

Il sistema è realizzato in legno e lastra di alluminio laccati attingendo a un’ampia palette cromatica.

Functional art or artistic functionality? – The work of Nort Studio, a professional workshop based in Antwerp, has always been oriented towards the design of furnishing elements with a strong iconographic power, in which pure geometries are intertwined with a very original chromatic research, characterized by the mix of saturated and contrasted colors.

After having created very sophisticated collections, especially in terms of seating, Jef De Brabander and Kathleen Opdenacker have created LMNM III, which the Belgian designers have defined as “wall objects”. In fact, they leave it in the balance between art and design, without classifying it in a rigid way. It is an element to be hanged to the wall and to be enjoyed already thanks to its figurative charge, but designed to accommodate everyday objects such as books, keys, glasses, and much more.

The system is made of wood and lacquered aluminum plate drawing on a wide color palette.
