“A volte un movimento sotterraneo è un ponte illuminato” è un’installazione site-specific nel tunnel che collega il Nancy and Rich Kinder Building e la Glassell School of Art al Museum of Fine Arts di Houston.

L’opera, progettata dallo Studio Olafur Eliasson, è composta da venti strutture poliedriche luminose. Ogni elemento contiene tre sorgenti a monofrequenza che emettono una lunghezza d’onda stretta di luce gialla, limitando la gamma spettrale alle sfumature di giallo e grigio. Questa scelta tecnica aumenta la capacità di percezione dei visitatori, dotandoli di un senso di visione iperdettagliata.

In due punti dei lucernari consentono l’accesso della luce naturale, filtrata da lastre di vetro viola, il cui effetto cambia costantemente in base alle condizioni ambientali esterne.

All’uscita, gli spettatori percepiscono il mondo in sfumature bluastre, una reazione automatica dell’occhio all’intensa stimolazione ottica dell’ambiente giallo.

Sensitive tunnel – “Sometimes an underground movement is an illuminated bridge” is a site-specific installation in the tunnel that connects the Nancy and Rich Kinder Building and the Glassell School of Art to the Museum of Fine Arts in Houston.

The work, designed by Studio Olafur Eliasson, is made up of twenty luminous polyhedral frames. Each element contains three mono-frequency sources that emit a narrow wavelength of yellow light, limiting the spectral range to shades of yellow and gray. This technical choice increases the perception capacity of visitors, endowing them with a sense of hyper-detailed vision.

In two points, as many skylights allow the access of natural light, filtered by sheets of purple glass, the effect of which changes constantly according to the external environmental conditions.

Upon exiting, viewers perceive the world in bluish shades, an automatic reaction of the eye to the intense optical stimulation of the yellow environment.
