ESPORRE IL COLORE

ARCHITECTURE | GRONINGER MUSEUM

Expose the color – The new seat of the Museum of Groningen, in the Netherlands, represents one of Alessandro Mendini’s best-known architectural works, especially in the international context. Inaugurated in 1994, it is an example of postmodern museography: the exhibition space as a place of entertainment and collective experience, beyond the works it contains.

We can say that this complex, which forms a real artificial island along the Verbindingskanaal, anticipated the current generation of highly chromatic public buildings, both on the facades and in the interior spaces.

Solid colors alternate with mosaic patterns or printed on laminate. The chromatic booklet is very extensive, very contrasted, and combines bright colors and pastel shades.

In short, it is a museum that exhibits itself, becoming a moment of social and urban aggregation.
