Formatasi come incisore al Sydney College of the Arts, Chrystie Longworth è stata poi ossessionata dall’argilla, tanto da esplorarne, negli ultimi 15 anni, le sue infinite possibilità.
Il suo marchio Cobalt & Kin è stato forgiato con il mantra “Treasures Worth Keeping”, dove tutti i pezzi sono intrisi di una sensazione di fatto a mano.
Non interessata a competere con la “perfezione” degli oggetti realizzati a macchina, Chrystie è più interessata ai piccoli dettagli che fanno cantare davvero un manufatto.
Anche la collezione di stoviglie proposta di recente rivela questo approccio all’artigianato. Per la realizzazione di piatti, vassoi e ciotole la designer ha rinunciato a ogni strumento meccanico, tornio in primis. Il suo codice espressivo risiede proprio nella irregolarità e nella varietà cromatica, amplificata dalle impronte dei polpastrelli che fanno vibrare la materia.
Fingerprints on material – Trained as an engraver at the Sydney College of the Arts, Chrystie Longworth has since become obsessed with clay, so much so that she has been exploring its infinite possibilities over the past 15 years.
Her brand Cobalt & Kin has been forged with the “Treasures Worth Keeping” mantra, where all her pieces are infused with a handmade feel.
Not interested in competing with the “perfection” of machine-crafted objects, Chrystie is more interested in the little details that really make an artifact sing.
The recently proposed tableware collection also reveals this approach to craftsmanship. For the creation of plates, trays and bowls, the designer has renounced any mechanical tool, especially the lathe. Her expressive code lies precisely in the irregularity and chromatic variety, amplified by the imprints of the fingertips that make the material vibrate.
