Il bianco e il nero non esistono allo stato puro: il nero può solo schiarirsi sotto l’effetto della luce e il bianco, al contrario, non può che risentire delle ombre circostanti.

Quest’ultimo caso è esemplificato da questo bar di Kaliningrad, città nell’exclave russa tra Polonia e Lituania.

Attraverso un linguaggio contemporaneo e per nulla vernacolare, i progettisti hanno cercato di ricreare un’atmosfera glaciale e fiabesca tipica dei paesaggi affacciati sul Baltico. Essi hanno puntato sul bianco, ma senza preoccuparsi di ottenere l’omogeneità. Ogni tipo di bianco è generato da materiali diversi: laterizio a coste, tronchi naturali, tessuti e tante altre verniciature dello stesso tipo. L’immagine di Vetvi Gastrobar è il risultato della somma di tanti effetti micro-chiaroscurali, contraddetti solo dal legno dei tavolini, in un generale mood gessoso.

Il tema del bianco viene affrontato non come un valore assoluto ma come un gioco di contaminazioni.

Contaminated white – Black and white do not exist in a pure state: black can only lighten under the effect of light and white, on the contrary, can only be affected by the surrounding shadows.

The latter case is exemplified by this bar in Kaliningrad, a city in the Russian exclave between Poland and Lithuania.

Through a contemporary and not at all vernacular language, the designers tried to recreate a glacial and fairy-tale atmosphere typical of the landscapes overlooking the Baltic. They focused on white, but without worrying about achieving homogeneity. Each type of white is generated by different materials: ribbed brick, natural logs, fabrics and many other paint finishes of the same type. The image of Vetvi Gastrobar is the result of the sum of many micro-chiaroscuro effects, contradicted only by the wood of the tables, in a general chalky mood.

The theme of white is approached not as an absolute value but as a game of contaminations.
