Questa casa ha oramai 10 anni, ma non possiamo non recensirla, considerata la sua esteticità al di fuori del tempo.
Un ex complesso ecclesiastico monolitico diventa una casa sorprendentemente gioiosa: Joerg Koch, direttore della rivista tedesca 032c, si è insediato, assieme alla propria famiglia, in un’ala di una chiesa brutalista dismessa, situata nel centro di Berlino.
Oggi St. Agnes, costruita a metà degli anni ‘60, si è trasformata in uno spazio destinato “riunire persone che producono qualcosa di culturalmente rilevante, che si tratti di architettura, mostre, riviste o libri”.
Nello specifico, i Koch vivono in un appartamento che un tempo fungeva da canonica, dove hanno cercato di enfatizzare il contrasto tra vecchio e nuovo, conservatore e radicale, grezzo e raffinato. Questa giustapposizione è forse più evidente nel living room, dove una morbida moquette viola riveste pavimento e pareti, fino a incontrare un soffitto di cemento a vista.
La drammaticità e la sobrietà della stanza viola conferiscono alla casa un’aria di artistica sofisticatezza, ma allo stesso tempo di calore.

A former monolithic ecclesiastical complex becomes a surprisingly joyful home: Joerg Koch, director of the German magazine 032c, has settled, together with his family, in a wing of a disused brutalist church, located in the center of Berlin.
Today St. Agnes, built in the mid-1960s, has transformed into a space intended “to bring together people who produce something culturally relevant, whether it be architecture, exhibitions, magazines or books”.
Specifically, the Kochs live in an apartment that once served as a rectory, where they sought to emphasize the contrast between old and new, conservative and radical, raw and refined. This juxtaposition is perhaps most evident in the living room, where a soft purple carpet covers the floor and walls, until it meets an exposed concrete ceiling.
The drama and sobriety of the purple room give the house an air of artistic sophistication, but at the same time warmth.
