La nuova filiale della Sugamo Shinkin Bank a Shimura è una sorta di manifesto dell’architettura di Emmanuelle Moureaux, progettista francese ma trapiantata in Giappone.
L’edificio occupa una posizione angolare e appare come una stratificazione di piani a effetto arcobaleno, sfalsati l’uno rispetto agli altri, con un esito visivo particolarmente dinamico.
La stessa progettista descrive l’intervento come «una pila di 12 strati colorati, che fa capolino dalla facciata per accogliere i visitatori. Entrando nell’edificio, tre lucernari ellittici inondano l’interno di una luce soffusa. Il soffitto è decorato con motivi a soffio di tarassaco che sembrano fluttuare e fluttuare nell’aria. Tre lunghi pozzi d’aria in vetro attraversano il primo e il secondo livello dell’edificio, inondando l’interno di luce naturale e “soffiando” aria attraverso di esso».
La vita dell’edificio prosegue anche di notte, quando l’illuminazione artificiale produce un’identità notturna davvero spettacolare.

The building occupies a corner position and appears as a stratification of rainbow-effect floors, staggered from each other, with a particularly dynamic visual outcome.
The designer herself describes the intervention as «a stack of 12 colored layers, which peeks out from the facade to welcome visitors. Upon entering the building, three elliptical skylights flood the interior with soft light. The ceiling is decorated with dandelion puff patterns that appear to float and float in the air. Three long glass air shafts span the first and second levels of the building, flooding the interior with natural light and “blowing” air through it.”
The life of the building continues even at night, when artificial lighting produces a truly spectacular nocturnal identity.
