UNA CORONA DI OCCHI

L’installazione Una corona di occhi è un omaggio simbolico a uno dei principi educativi di Francesc d’Assís. Galí, pittore e pedagogo catalano, il quale, durante le escursioni sui monti del Montseny con i suoi studenti, chiedeva loro di non portare attrezzi, ma di andare solo “armati di una corona di occhi in testa”. Con questo esercizio, Galí incoraggiava i suoi studenti a osservare attentamente la natura e a selezionare gli elementi più importanti prima di incorporarli nelle loro opere d’arte.
La corona, posata recentemente al Museu Nacional d’Art de Catalunya, è costituita da un anello di dodici metri di diametro su cui sono fissati sedici medaglioni, che richiamano sia gli “occhi” di Galí sia le sedici colonne della sala che sostengono la cupola. Essa fluttua a sei metri di altezza, fragile, proprio come l’impalcatura che Galí sollevò durante il semestre trascorso a dipingere i murales. L’intera struttura è dipinta di un blu elettrico, che richiama il cielo della cupola nel suo punto più alto.
A crown of eyes – The installation A Crown of Eyes is a symbolic tribute to one of the educational principles of Francesc d’Assís. Galí, a Catalan painter and educator, asked his students not to carry tools during excursions to the Montseny mountains, but to go “armed only with a crown of eyes on their heads”. With this exercise, Galí encouraged his students to carefully observe nature and select the most important elements before incorporating them into their artworks.
The crown, recently installed at the Museu Nacional d’Art de Catalunya, consists of a twelve-meter diameter ring with sixteen medallions attached, recalling both Galí’s “eyes” and the sixteen columns supporting the dome. It floats six meters in the air, fragile, just like the scaffolding Galí erected during the semester he spent painting the murals. The entire structure is painted an electric blue, echoing the sky of the dome at its highest point.
