Il progetto di questo appartamento, situato nel centro storico di Milano, combina un restauro conservativo con precise aggiunte contemporanee, pensate per evidenziare la distinzione tra elementi antichi e moderni.
L’intervento è dominato dalla creazione di un soppalco in acciaio e legno. Esso si presenta come una struttura esile e leggera, progettata per massimizzare lo spazio verticale. Una trave in acciaio HEB, allineata con le sporgenze e gli stucchi originali del soffitto, attraversa la zona giorno. Un pilastro ruotato di 45 gradi svolge una duplice funzione: riduce lo spessore della trave e segna il confine tra l’ingresso, la zona giorno e la cucina. La scala in ferro a pianta semicircolare collega la zona notte al piano terra e funge anche da elemento strutturale.
Nonostante l’uso di un verde abbastanza spento, questa nuova presenza ci colpisce il suo assetto scheletrico ed essenziale, in cui la geometria prende il sopravvento.

A complex cage – The design for this apartment, located in Milan’s historic center, combines conservative restoration with thoughtful contemporary additions, designed to highlight the distinction between ancient and modern elements.
The project is dominated by the creation of a steel and wood mezzanine. It presents itself as a slender and lightweight structure, designed to maximize vertical space. A HEB steel beam, aligned with the original ceiling overhangs and stucco, spans the living area. A pillar rotated 45 degrees serves a dual function: it reduces the beam’s thickness and marks the boundary between the entrance, living area, and kitchen. The semicircular iron staircase connects the sleeping area to the ground floor and also serves as a structural element.
Despite the use of a rather muted green, this new addition strikes us with its skeletal and essential structure, in which geometry takes precedence.
